Alton is an historic market town situated at the head of the Northern River Wey valley, surrounded by beautiful Hampshire countryside. The town of Alton lies within North East Hampshire and contains many very attractive villages such as Bentley, Bentworth, Binsted, Chawton, Colemore, East Tisted, Farringdon, Four Marks, Froyle, Kingsley, Holybourne, Lasham, Medstead, Newton Valence, Selborne, Shalden and Worldham. Other nearby villages include Froxfield with its much sought-after primary school, Privett and the Meon Valley. A thriving country market town with a fascinating history, Alton was built around a wealthy Saxon settlement and had the most valuable recorded market in the Doomsday Book.
Today a delightful mix of historic buildings jostles with modern shops and arcades. Tuesday is market day, and the town hosts many markets and fairs throughout the year. The market town lies 18 miles north east of Winchester and for many years was famous for its hops and breweries. There is much cultural wealth with Jane Austen’s literary home at Chawton and the museums of William Curtis as well as the home of Gilbert White the naturalists and the Oates Museum at Selbourne.

Heathrow is approximately 45 miles and Gatwick approximately 50 miles. There is a main line railway station to London (Waterloo approximately 1 hour) that ensures house rentals in Alton are popular with commuters.
There are excellent local Junior/Infant Schools with Nurseries throughout the area and houses to rent within range of the popular Alton Sixth Form College are highly sought after. Alton Convent is a much admired private school with Bedales, Churchers College, Lord Wandsworth, Daneshill, Sherfield, St Swithin and Winchester College being some of the nearby private schools.
